I've been holding on to this domain for over thirteen years now. Only in the first three years, though, it pointed to a website. A personal travel blog for friends and family. Now ten years after I took it offline, a blog is back.
Why publish a blog in 2026 when no one but LLM bots will read it anyway?
If you're a bit nihilistic, this might be a good excuse to not publish one. But as someone who is inherently optimistic, I do hope someone might actually read this blog and not only point an LLM at it and tell it to get a summary. Apart from the optimism, the real reason is that I would like to do more writing. I found, as many others before me have, that writing keeps one sharp, thoughts organised and well articulated. It helps me find gaps in my thinking. I believe now more than ever that this is important, so one can continue to make sound judgements and not be swayed in their agency.
This still begs the question; why publish your writing?
Publishing is a very simple mechanism for me to keep myself honest and the bar for quality high. It motivates me to do another rewrite of that paragraph to be clearer. To avoid being too vague when explaining why things are connected. To go deep, explore the details, and maybe discover that my assumptions might have been wrong. The implication on which they rested were false.
Thus publishing is more than just an exercise. It is a commitment.
